ipmi/chassis-asset-tag

Asset tag to write to the BMC's Chassis resource.

Consumed by the setChassisAssetTag action, which PATCHes AssetTag on the machine's Redfish Chassis resources.

The asset tag is one of the few Redfish fields that is both writable and visible to the host: a BMC that propagates it into SMBIOS Type 3 makes it readable in band as the chassis asset tag. On hardware where the BMC and the booted OS share no other identifier -- no common UUID, no serial, no host MACs published out of band -- writing a known value here is a way to give a machine an identity it can announce about itself once it boots.

Whether the value reaches SMBIOS is a property of the BMC, not of Redfish. Confirm it on the hardware in question before relying on it; setChassisAssetTag reports what it wrote and to which chassis, but cannot know what the host will see.

The write is unconditional. setChassisAssetTag replaces whatever is there, because an operator re-tagging a machine on purpose must not be blocked by the plugin. A caller that should only fill in an unset tag reads the current value with getChassisAssetTag first and decides for itself -- that action resolves the same target, so what it reports is exactly what a write would replace.
